Concert Festival
on Wednesday 01 March 2006 - 21:01:20 | by MichaelCarter
Dear Directors:
We are pleased to announce that this year’s Concert Festival will be held at Union County High School in Maynardville, TN on Saturday, April 29, 2006. The school is located conveniently about 30 minutes north of Knoxville on Hwy 33. (Take the Broadway exit north off I-640. Maynardville is about 15 minutes north of Halls.) There is ample parking and seating and concessions will be provided all day long.
The festival is open to all bands; high school, junior high, and middle school. Also invited are instrumental ensembles such as jazz ensembles or woodwind, brass, string or percussion ensembles. Groups will perform ranked by size and genre, with middle school and junior high school bands performing first. In order to accommodate individual scheduling needs, we will be scheduling two blocks of time this year, morning and afternoon. We will attempt to schedule a morning block of bands from Grade 1 to Grade 5-6, take a break, and then schedule an afternoon block from Grade 1 to Grade 5-6 again. You may request the block that is most convenient for your needs.
Choice of music is at the discretion of the director. A warm-up piece is optional. No sight-reading is involved. You should bring with you 3 conductor’s scores of your music (originals please) for the judges with numbered measures.
The cost of the festival is $90.00. This fee includes a CD recording of your band’s performance. Please make note to your students and parents that they may purchase additional recordings for themselves at the festival.
Groups will be given a division I, II, or III rating and awards will be presented accordingly.
Deadline for entry is April 13, 2006 (postmark).
Judges:
Ron Rogers
Pete Hodges
Jenny D'Andrea

Senior Clinic
on Wednesday 04 January 2006 - 15:24:14 | by MichaelCarter
Directors,
We are soon approaching the TSSBDA Senior Clinic. The clinic will be held on January 27-28 at Lenoir City High School. The clinicians are William Hunley from Smith County High School and Keith Clupper from Karns High School. There are a few changes this year: Clinic fees are 20 dollars and the clinic will be held at Lenoir City. If you have not already joined TSSBDA for this year, please do so when you mail in your Senior Clinic registration. The deadline for Senior Clinic Registration will be the day of ESTBOA Senior Clinic Auditions. You may give me your info there if you wish. The forms for membership and clinic registration are on the downloads page as well as the applications for the Bob Rush and Tom Bailey scholarships. These are available to seniors who are going in to music education as their major in college. Each scholarship application will require a letter from the director about the student.
We look forward to seeing you. Please check our website for information on other TSSBDA events including the Jr. Clinic on Feb 24-25 and our Concert Festival on April 29th. Please forward this email to any directors in your area that may be interested.
Sincerely,
Michael Carter
President, TSSBDA

The Tennessee Secondary Schools Band Directors Association began when directors in East Tennessee saw a need for festivals and clinics which could better meet the needs of students in small schools or new, growing band programs.
Membership is open to any band director in Tennessee with a young or growing program which includes grades 6 through12.
Our membership includes directors from all areas of East Tennessee, including Chattanooga, Scott County, Morgan County, Morristown, Jefferson City, Dandridge, White Pine, Knoxville, Cock County, Roane County, Harriman City, Maryville, Maynardville, Madisonville and others. The membership is continually growing.
This site includes information about Junior and Senior Clinic and Concert Festival. Each of these events is open to all members of TSSBDA.
TSSBDA hosts a Senior Clinic in late January, a Junior Clinic in late February or early March and a Concert Festival in April. College Scholarships are also available to outstanding musicians in our organization.
